NY Giants 34 – 28

Posted by frek on December 22, 2008

Carolina went through the Giants defense pretty readily, but they are a top flight team with a great running game. In the end, Giants kept it close, tied game as it came to an end and did exactly what they needed to do to win sudden death overtime.

Now that’s the kind of character that wins super bowls- after two flat games Giants are back!

Final Four: North Carolina!

Posted by frek on April 5, 2008

Update: No such luck, Carolina is completely flat. A great Kansas team blows em’ away. However, the primary reason in my view is that Lawson & Ellington can’t handle the ball. Thomas can’t either and Green seems to lose his share too. I’m afraid I find Lawson to be really hyped. The guy picks up the ball at the worst times and as point you just can’t do it. What’s more, it seems he deosn’t want the ball when the game is on the line. Last year against USC, same thing. I don’t see how these guys can get NBA looks, they are NOT ready. Enough bitching, both are great players… just a little frustrated and maybe expecting too much.

So, with the unexpected New York Giants victory, I’m on a bit of a [sports fan] roll here. Still carrying that G- men high around, but let’s hope the luck is still with me :-)

For today’s Final Four, I’m picking North Carolina over Kansas and then Memphis over UCLA. I believe UNC will beat Kansas pretty handily and then Memphis will take UCLA. Love Kevin Love, but it’s Memphis here.

In the Final, I can’t help but favor UNC because I’ve been a fan since my buddy Dan Hauck turned me on to them.  We were ten year old basketball fanatics and he loved UNC. Wasn’t long before I joined him… that’s never changed. While I’ll root for my ACC alma mater U of Maryland first, I still follow and root for UNC.  As for Memphis, they look unbeatable but you’ve got to put faith in your team. UNC in a tight one!

Moral obligation: see ‘An Inconvenient Truth’

Posted by frek on August 9, 2006

Went to see Al Gore and ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ the other night.

I guess I’ve been one of those who felt the US Gov would take care of everything. Couldn’t be further from the truth as these folks have done nothing but serve their own agenda(s.) We’re seeing repercussions in the way of a greater frequency of catastrophic natural events and outrageous heat.

It’s unacceptable and the most disappointing thing I can imagine, but by not getting informed I’m very much a part of the problem. No more.

st julien

Posted by frek on January 9, 2006

my wife and i decided to celebrate her birthday at the st julien, a boulder, co hotel & spa, this weekend.

the place was great. neat exterior and interior design, good food, good spa and, to boot, a room upgrade for her birthday.

we had no plan, but she completely tuned out from her biz (rare) and relaxed.  had a great run through the surrounding ‘burbs (can see why people love this town so much, the views and surrounding flatiron peaks are magnificent) and got a sunny start to ‘freakonomics’ on a comfy lounger in their courtyard.

thanks st julien for a great & relaxing weekend!
